"I like the big kitchen and big communal feel to the dining/chill out area. The fire in the Meeting House is fab! Eco hand wash/washing up liquid a nice touch. Also the great communication and flexibility to our needs was really appreciated :-)"

"Great venue for a bunch of 50s-something university friends who fancy a weekend mountain biking. I thought I’d show a bunch of southerners what they’re missing up north!” (group of friends)

"There really isn't anything like this in the rest of Cumbria. The woods, the meeting room and the bunkbarn all being so close together." (Forest Schools course trainer)

“We had such a fantastic family get-together - simple accommodation, great space and such a wonderful part of the world. Thank you very much for creating and maintaining such a haven!”

“The building is clean and tidy, the location is perfect, the owners are friendly. You can't get a better priced weekend away anywhere in the area. We hired Rookhow for a family get together and had the best weekend ever. An amazing hidden gem. Highly recommended and one we will use again for sure.”

“The woods are some of the most beautiful I have had the pleasure to spend time in and I often think of them. We sat around the fire on an evening and cooked our tea. A deeply relaxing break from the hustle and bustle - the beauty of nature at its best with the comfort of a good nights sleep in a bed!”

“We’ve stayed at Rookhow quite a few times now. If you’re looking to be still in a forest/ wood and to marvel at the variety of green that nature creates then like us you will love being in this straight forward hostel steeped in history and a perfect place to laugh and enjoy life!”

“I have been going to the Lakes for years with a group of friends and Rookhow is my favourite place. The building is lovely with its own woodlands attached. The people are friendly and the location is ideal. I would recommend it to anyone.”
