SUPPORTING  COMMUNITY GROUPS

Rookhow puts 5% of every booking fee into a fund to support groups, who may not be able to cover the cost themselves, to stay at Rookhow. So far we have helped over 1,000 individuals from 65 community groups, including refugees, women living with domestic abuse,  people dealing with trauma and addictions and LGBTQ+ youth groups. We have had a huge amount of feedback about the positive effect the time at Rookhow has had on people's mental health and wellbeing.

“Staying at Rookhow is an experience I’ll never forget. It has given me so much joy and I simply loved every second there. I felt safe and calm.”

EVENTS

We run residential weekends at Rookhow, often on peace and reconciliation issues, Quiet Days and also host concerts. See our events page for more details.

Art residency at Rookhow

We are delighted to announce that Caroline Stow is starting an 18 month artist's residency at Rookhow as part of an MA she is doing with the University of Lancashire. Caroline explains,

"I will be looking at the spiritual significance, ecology, and our current and historical human engagement with Rookhow, which I see as intertwined and interdependent, ‘like the treads of a tapestry’. I hope to use the time to create site specific works of art reflecting the very unique ‘Sense of Place’ we feel here and to develop ways to foster and deepen creative engagement with the buildings and the woodland for individuals and groups who use the site. Particularly important as so many feel cut off from the natural world and from our own rootedness within it. So much has been done to restore the site and it would be great to grow these connections and involve as many of the different groups as possible over the time span of the project."

"Peaceful, simple, welcoming."

"It was great to be away from work, phones, traffic, advertisements, and the general noise of it all."

"Wow what a place to stay, if you want somewhere to gather your thoughts this is the place to be."

"It’s been amazing . We have walked and biked our socks off! Truly wonderful. Very happy time had."

"The fire pit in the middle of the woods was exactly what we were looking for, staying late in front of the fire and enjoying the nature around us. The perfect way to really reconnect with nature."

"The venue was absolutely lovely. It was just the right level of secluded, and when the night fell, you could see all of the stars twinkling in the sky. The bunk beds were comfy, the outside area was a delight to be in, the path through the woodlands felt absolutely magical; overall, it was a wonderful place to stay and felt very safe and well looked-after.”
